Had the pleasure of visiting Cuba for a vacation last week and came across a talented artist by the name of Jorge Felix Curbrto Garcia, 32 from Matanzas, Cuba. I met Jorge the second last day of my trip in a small market gallery in downtown Varadaro. This was after a vigorous search to find an unique and original piece of Cuban art that took me from Varadaro to Havana and back. Towards the day of my purchase I had my eyes on two other artists work but couldn't decide on which one to go with; then I came across Jorge. We first began to talk about the work of one of the artists I was considering. Our conversation transitioned into the politics of the art culture of Cuba and the struggles. I asked him he was an artist and then requested to see his work. I was instantly drawn to his work; the way he uses a black and white background and then color to give emphasis to his focal point. Told me that he primarily uses acrylic and water colors to complete his paintings. I also found out the Jorge is a very talented yet humble artist. He in some ways remember me of myself in the way that he views himself in comparison to the other artists and that drew me to his work even more. The piece that I purchased (shown in picture) is one of the famous Cuban hotel the Ernest Hemingway lived in while writing 'The Old Man and the Sea' and one of the beautiful classic cars that still drive up and down the streets of Cuba. To me this painting speaks "Yo❤️ Cuba" (I love Cuba)!
Yes yes.... Come out and show ur love on Wednesday, July 8 inside the Pacific Junction Hotel (234 King St East, Toronto) @ 7pm and be witness my talent in person; as I do something that has not been done at this event before.... Two live paintings as the same damn time. That's right.... TWO!
